Why
I fly the Confederate Flag:
First,
let me make it very clear, the forced enslavement of those of African heritage
by the southerners is absolutely wrong, there can be no apology for that vile
practice.
However,
I fly the confederate flag because among the many unique ideas intentionally
incorporated into the American Constitution, was the idea of the sovereignty of
the States in all matters within their own borders.
The
Confederate States had the ability, and the authority, divested in them by the
Constitution of the United States of America to secede from, or maintain their
place in, the union, as they wished. The war was not fought for slavery,
despite what many history books would tell you today, until the final years.
Even then, Lincoln felt that putting the pro-freedom clauses into treaty would
further alienate the Confederates, and making reconstruction more painful that
was necessary.
I fly the Confederate
Flag because it stands for the original intent of the Constitution of the United
States, insofar as that document guarantees the sovereignty of each State within
its own borders.
